ESD Fashion Show & Luncheon

The annual ESD Parents Association Fashion Show and Luncheon took place last week at Brookhollow Country Club. I’ve never been to this event before, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had watching the seniors and their moms playfully strut their stuff in looks from The Shak and Men’s. Runway poses ranged from blowing kisses, to Tebowing (a la Tim Tebow), to flexing, and more.

Although the runway show had everyone laughing, the best part of the event was when the Parent’s Association presented a hefty check to Father Swann. It’s been a rough year for ESD, and the $541,000 check, the largest Parent’s Association donation EVER, really showed that the community is ready and willing to rally around their school.

Brunello Cucinelli “La Vita Favolosa” Luncheon

Last Thursday, the store hosted “La Vita Favolosa” (The Fabulous Life) Luncheon for some of Stanley Korshak’s most adored clients, featuring fashions from luxury designer Brunello Cucinelli. Guests were treated to an Italian inspired feast set against the lovely backdrop of the Crescent Courtyard, including an outdoor “cucina” (kitchen) experience, a string quartet, and imported wine from Solomeo.

Creative Director, Bret McKinney, stayed true to rustic Italian tradition using large farm tables set with vintage tableware where the guests enjoyed Italian cuisine from the Cucinelli private cookbook.

Throughout the event, models could be seen wearing Cucinelli’s trademark neutral color palette, luxurious cashmeres, and unique stylish feather trims from the Fall 2012 Collection.

This week we celebrated the opening of our hot (or haute) in-store Lanvin boutique and Patron Magazine’s Young & Philanthropic: Lindsey & Patrick Collins, Mark Hanson, Melissa Meeks, Michael Nazerian, Natasha Nazerian, and Capera Ryan.

Guests enjoyed a French evening in the boutique, complete with the French 75 martinis and delicious French inspired bites. Live models premiered Lanvin Fall 2012, a collection which marks the 10th Anniversary for designer Alber Elbaz.

How To: Flawless Skin

Flawless skin can be hard to perfect especially while still trying to look natural. Some foundations tend to be too heavy leaving the makeup feel like it’s caked on and some can tend to melt away throughout the day. Now with summer around the corner, it’s important to find the right tools and products that will help you achieve this look, and Stanley Korshak’s makeup artist Joe Flores is here to help.

Step 1: Prep the skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, this will help let the makeup set making it last longer.

Step 2: Using a Chanel #6 foundation brush, sweep Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation starting from the T-zone and working your way out to the perimeter of the face in downward strokes.

Step 3: Apply Hourglass Hidden Concealer with an Hourglass #8 brush. Begin at the corner of the inner eye, blending under the eye. Then apply concealer on entire eyelid as an eye shadow base.

Step 4: With a Chanel #8 blush/bronzer brush, apply bronzer (La Prairie’s Cellular Treatment Bronzer) anywhere the sun might “kiss” your face. Begin at the hairline right around the temples. Then apply under the cheekbone blending forward and stopping where the nasolabial fold (the lines where the nose meets with the lip) begins.

Step 5: Lastly, with the same brush apply blush (La Prairie’s Cellular Treatment Powder Blush in “Zinnia”) sweeping across the apples of the cheeks and then the temples.

And viola! You have flawless skin!

Fresh Faces of Fashion: Fashion Show and Dinner

As you know, the 2012 Fresh Faces of Fashion program began several months ago with a kick-off party, a photo shoot, and a spread in Modern Luxury Dallas. Last Friday, Stanley Korshak and Modern Luxury Dallas officially introduced this year’s Fresh Faces of Fashion to a sold out crowd at Stanley Korshak. The event was co-chaired by Yvonne Crum and Jill Rowlett and raised funds for the Suicide & Crisis Center of North Texas (the program has raised over $1 million dollars since it started 6 years ago).

Korshak Q&A with Vanessa Mooney
Vanessa Mooney Jewelry was established in 2009 under a core idea: “let uninhibited design intuition lead the way”.  Vanessa has always enjoyed the freedom art allows, leading her to become a self-taught designer as a creative outlet.  All pieces are hand-crafted in Downtown Los Angeles offering her audience to choose from eclectic styles typically found in Californian street style.
Last week we got the chance to sit down with Vanessa when she was here for her trunk show in The Shak.
Q: Where do you get your design inspiration?
A: I design 150 to 200 pieces in each collection, which is a lot for a jewelry designer.  Some just come from my mind, from different feelings that I get about pieces. I also admire other cultures – African, Napoli, Thai, and different tribal styles. This spring I was really inspired by the neon colors of the 80’s, and I am working on a futuristic-bohemian inspired line for Fall.
Q: How does your personal style influence your designs?
A: I am definitely a California girl. I love warm weather, feeling comfortable, and eclectic pieces. I think you see that in my jewelry.
Q: What is the one thing you can’t live without?
A: A good leather jacket.
Q: Describe the Vanessa Mooney customer.
A: I am actually shocked a lot by who buys my jewelry. At first it was the funky girl who has that personal sense of style, but as the brand has grown, it transcends these boundaries. Although I think young “street style” when designing the brand, I have seen it worn by all ages, 15 to 60.
Q: Which celebrity would you like to see wearing your jewelry?
A:  I am that girl who doesn’t really know celebrities. (laughs). Rihanna; because I think she is really cool and wears jewelry really well.
