Nest Jewelry Designer Profile

We love Nest Jewelry over in The Shak!

It’s the perfect “go-to” line that can help add a little fun to any outfit. Sisters, Janette Wilkinson and Jana Erwin are the designers behind the Dallas-based company.

Janette and Jana grew up in Oklahoma where they developed a love for creating their own fabrics and making their own jewelry. Staying true to these skills practiced at an early age, Nest Jewelry prospers through “repurposing,” a passion taught to the girls by their grandmother and consisting of “taking something old and giving it new life.”

Jana says, “I can honestly say I am not inspired by any certain thing.  It is actually more of an aesthetic that just seems to live inside me.”

Janette says, “I am obsessed with natural, organic materials in every aspect of my life. To take these materials and juxtapose the natural elegance with a super sleek contemporary design I just think is really cool; they won’t go out of fashion and are still on trend.”

“Here in Dallas, we love being at Stanley Korshak – that’s our store and our focus,” says Wilkinson.

At the end of the day, however, Wilkinson and Erwin are inspired and motivated by their customers.

Erwin says, “When I see someone wearing our pieces, and it makes them feel great, it motivates me to keep doing what I am doing.  If ever I get in a rut for wondering why I do this I realize I need to get of my office and go see the customers.  The stories they tell me of how our jewelry makes them feel beautiful, powerful, sexy, bold…. it just never gets old.  Who knew jewelry could change someone’s life, but I hear it over and over again.  It is really gratifying.”

Thalé Blanc Designer Profile

Over the past few weeks, a set of clutches have been catching my eye…the exotic print, the gem tone colors, the gorgeous crystal clasps, the luxe leather lining, the sleek shape, I could go on and on. And to find out that these handbags are a first collection from new line, Thalé Blanc; my curiosity was peaked!

Luckily for me, Thalé Blanc Designer, Deborah Sawaf, is in store today to showcase her gorgeous Holiday 2012 collection.

As she walked me through her collection, one icon stood out – the cheetah. The cheetah, Deborah explains, “is the most beautiful animal in the wilderness,” and like the cheetah, the Thalé Blanc woman stands out in a crowd. No wonder I liked these handbags (wink, wink).

Deborah also gave me a little sneak peak into Spring 2013, which is rich in color and Art Deco influences. Get excited!

Korshak Q&A with Vanessa Mooney
Vanessa Mooney Jewelry was established in 2009 under a core idea: “let uninhibited design intuition lead the way”.  Vanessa has always enjoyed the freedom art allows, leading her to become a self-taught designer as a creative outlet.  All pieces are hand-crafted in Downtown Los Angeles offering her audience to choose from eclectic styles typically found in Californian street style.
Last week we got the chance to sit down with Vanessa when she was here for her trunk show in The Shak.
Q: Where do you get your design inspiration?
A: I design 150 to 200 pieces in each collection, which is a lot for a jewelry designer.  Some just come from my mind, from different feelings that I get about pieces. I also admire other cultures – African, Napoli, Thai, and different tribal styles. This spring I was really inspired by the neon colors of the 80’s, and I am working on a futuristic-bohemian inspired line for Fall.
Q: How does your personal style influence your designs?
A: I am definitely a California girl. I love warm weather, feeling comfortable, and eclectic pieces. I think you see that in my jewelry.
Q: What is the one thing you can’t live without?
A: A good leather jacket.
Q: Describe the Vanessa Mooney customer.
A: I am actually shocked a lot by who buys my jewelry. At first it was the funky girl who has that personal sense of style, but as the brand has grown, it transcends these boundaries. Although I think young “street style” when designing the brand, I have seen it worn by all ages, 15 to 60.
Q: Which celebrity would you like to see wearing your jewelry?
A:  I am that girl who doesn’t really know celebrities. (laughs). Rihanna; because I think she is really cool and wears jewelry really well.

Korshak Q&A with Carlos Falchi

The saying “the apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree” has never been more true than in the Falchi family. Creative in spirit, Carlos Falchi, started the family business nearly 40 years ago using exotic skins and colors to set his handbags apart from a sea of solid leather. In recent years, his daughter Kate joined the company as a designer and is passionate about carrying on her father’s legacy.

When asked what makes his line special, he says, “I think it’s the whole process because I develop all the skins and materials…it starts with the raw materials because we put a lot of love and care developing it.”

Watch and learn about the man who’s responsible for producing some of the world’s finest handbags.

Stanley Korshak is proud to introduce up-and-coming designer Chadwick Bell to the women of Dallas. Chadwick Bell’s collections represent “the blend of romantic and utilitarian, the European tradition of tailoring mixed with a sense of American ease, and the combination of strength and vulnerability in his ideal woman.”

Chadwick Bell will be presenting Spring 2012 at the Saint Valentine’s Day Luncheon in Dallas on February 14th. Reception at Stanley Korshak to follow.

When asked about where Babi Aluwalia drew her inspiration from, she simple stated, “Women need to look and feel fabulous every day, not just when we are going to a party or some black tie affair. Every day should be glamorous”. After seeing the collection, we couldn’t agree more ourselves.

RVR Neckwear Designer Profile
The man behind the tie is Robert Valdes-Rodriguez. RVR to many friends, colleagues and business partners.
As a Wall Street executive, Robert had a ‘lucky’ tie, one that he always wore to important meetings and client pitches. After many successful years with his ‘lucky’ tie, it got old and frayed. Robert’s fruitless search for a replacement led him to design his own tie. It quickly turned into a passion, ultimately resulting in a collection, simply named RVR.
With the objective of creating a tie that successful men around the world could always depend on, Robert personally oversees every step of the RVR tie-making process. From the silk designs to the hand-stitching in Italy, Robert is the reason why the quality and style of RVR ties are so uncompromisingly high.
Q&A with RVR:
Q: What do customers get from RVR that they’re not getting from other designers?
A: RVR brings a unique value proposition. As a successful international banker for over 20 years, I actually know the clients. I was the client. Our approach is not driven by fashion trend but rather focused on the end user. Every RVR tie produced is with the clients in mind.
Q: Why ties?
A: In my opinion, the tie is the one menswear accessory that can make or break your look. You can hide an inferior belt, or mediocre pair of shoes but you can’t hide a bad tie.
RVR. All about elegance. Inside and out.
